Join us as  author Jay Dowd discusses his book, "The White Fund of Lawrence, Massachusetts". A book that celebrates two of Lawrence’s great philanthropists, Daniel Appleton White and the Rev. William E. Wolcott. Judge White gave us a Lyceum style lecture series. His trustees brought activists, inventors and adventurers to the City to speak. He gave us land for a library. His trustees built it. The Rev Wolcott gave us fine art worthy of museum display. Both men intended their gifts to lift and inspire workers who may not otherwise enjoy the fruits of an education.

Bob Frishman will also be there to present info on these great philanthropists of Lawrence.

Jay Dowd grew up in Lawrence on Prospect Hill, graduated from Holy Cross in 1973 and worked as a teacher, coach and administrator at Austin Prep in Reading for 45 years. He served as a Lawrence City Councilor from 1986 to 1992 and is currently a White Fund Trustee. His wife, Susan, teaches Citizenship classes in Lawrence. His daughter, Elizabeth, is the mother of two and a business owner in Cheshire, CT. His son, Philip, is the father of four and serves as a Major in the United States Army.
